Biografia - Biography

Weverton Santos, natural de Sarzedo (MG) Brasil, iniciou seus estudos no Projeto Música de Sarzedo com o maestro Joanir de Oliveira, no qual teve instrução de diversos professores.

É Bacharel em trompa pela Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais, onde estudou com Sarah Ramez e Sérgio Gomes. Ainda em Minas Gerais integrou a Academia da Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais sob a orientação de Alma Maria Liebrecht.

É mestre pela Eastman School of Music em Nova York (EUA), onde estudou com Peter Kurau. Atualmente é doutorando em trompa pela Bienen School of Music da Northwestern University (EUA), na classe de trompa onde estuda com os Professores Gail Williams e Jonathan Boen, onde também estuda canto com Patrice Michaels.

Foi integrante da Orquestra Sinfônica de Minas Gerais por 7 anos.

Atuou também em importantes orquestras nacionais e internacionais como Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Orquestra Virtuosi, Orquestra Villa-Lobos e Orquestra Minas Barroca onde participou de seminários e concertos na Hochschule für Musik Rostock na Alemanha, dentre outras.

Em 2019, foi um dos brasileiros selecionados para integrar a The Orchestra of the Americas onde realizou um tour pelo Mexico. Participou de prestigiados festivais nacionais e internacionais, como o Festival de Portillo no Chile, Marvão Academy de Portugal onde estudou com Radovan Vlatković em uma série de masterclasses, Festival Internacional Sesc de Música de Pelotas, Festival de Música de Sarzedo, Festival de Música de Ouro Branco dentre outros.

Em 2025 foi convidado a ser um dos Emerging Artists no Victoria Bach Festival no Texas (EUA), no qual elege jovens músicos promissores e influentes no cenário da música clássica atual. Como professor, atuou por 6 anos no Projeto Música de Sarzedo (MG). Ministrou aulas secundárias para estudantes de trompa na Eastman School (EUA) com a bolsa de estudos de professor assistente e atualmente é professor assistente no programa de bolsa de estudos na Northwestern University (EUA).

Possui diversas premiações como o Concurso Jovens Solistas da Orquestra Sinfônica de Minas Gerais, concurso Jovem Músico BDMG (2014) como solista, e em 2015 como integrante de um quinteto de sopros. Além disso, foi agraciado com o Third Prize do International Orchestra Auditions Awards da Samnium University of Music. Como solista convidado atuou com o Eastman Horn Choir (EUA) e com a Banda Sinfônica de Sarzedo (MG).

Além de trompista, Weverton atua também como cantor contratenor. No Brasil, foi aluno de Sergio Anders e Daiana Melo e integrante do Grupo Experimental de Ópera da UEMG interpretando papéis em pequenas montagens como Le nozze di Figaro, Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Orfeo ed Euridice e Hensel and Gretel.

Em 2025, se apresentará como Valletto na Ópera L’incoronazione di Poppea de Claudio Monteverdi com o Northwestern Opera Theater (EUA). Na Eastman School of Music foi integrante do coro Collegium Musicum da Eastman School of Music, orientado pelo professor Dr. Paul O'Dette, e estudou na classe de Joelle Lachance. Atualmente estuda canto com Patrice Michaels, professora no estúdio de voz da Northwestern University, onde trabalha a técnica vocal aliada à performance da trompa, sendo este tema a linha de estudo do seu projeto de doutorado.

Weverton Santos, a native of Sarzedo (MG) Brazil, began his musical studies in the Sarzedo Music Project with Maestro Joanir de Oliveira, receiving instruction from various teachers.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in horn performance from the State University of Minas Gerais, where he studied with Sarah Ramez and Sérgio Gomes. Still in Minas Gerais, he was a member of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra Academy under the guidance of Alma Maria Liebrecht. He earned his Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music in New York (USA), where he studied with Peter Kurau. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in horn performance at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University (USA), studying horn with Professors Gail Williams and Jonathan Boen, and voice with Patrice Michaels.

He was a member of the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra for 7 years.

He has also performed with important national and international orchestras such as the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Orquestra Virtuosi, Orquestra Villa-Lobos, and Orquestra Minas Barroca, participating in seminars and concerts at the Hochschule für Musik Rostock in Germany, among others.

In 2019, he was one of the Brazilians selected to join The Orchestra of the Americas, with which he toured Mexico.

He has participated in prestigious national and international festivals, such as the Portillo Festival in Chile, Marvão Academy in Portugal—where he studied with Radovan Vlatković in a series of masterclasses—the International Sesc Music Festival in Pelotas, the Sarzedo Music Festival, the Ouro Branco Music Festival, among others.

In 2025, he was invited to be one of the Emerging Artists at the Victoria Bach Festival in Texas (USA), which highlights promising and influential young musicians in today’s classical music scene. As a teacher, he taught for six years in the Sarzedo Music Project (MG). He gave secondary horn lessons to students at the Eastman School (USA) with a teaching assistant scholarship, and is currently a teaching assistant at Northwestern University (USA) through the scholarship program.

He has received several awards, such as the Young Soloists Competition of the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, the BDMG Young Musician competition (2014) as a soloist, and in 2015 as a member of a wind quintet. In addition, he was awarded Third Prize in the International Orchestra Auditions Awards from the Samnium University of Music.

As a guest soloist, he has performed with the Eastman Horn Choir (USA) and the Sarzedo Symphonic Band (MG). In addition to being a horn player, Weverton also performs as a countertenor. In Brazil, he studied with Sergio Anders and Daiana Melo and was a member of the Experimental Opera Group of UEMG, performing roles in small productions such as Le nozze di Figaro, Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Orfeo ed Euridice, and Hansel and Gretel.

In 2025, he will perform as Valletto in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea with the Northwestern Opera Theater (USA). At the Eastman School of Music, he was a member of the Collegium Musicum Choir under Professor Dr. Paul O’Dette, and studied voice with Joelle Lachance. He currently studies voice with Patrice Michaels, voice faculty at Northwestern University, where he works on integrating vocal technique with horn performance, a central theme of his doctoral research project.
